Health insurance renewal time! WOOHOO!
I know most decision makers just say AH – not again, get it to budget and move on!”
SURPRISE: I am going to challenge you to think a bit differently this year.
Even if you don’t make any significant vendor changes, consider making some small changes that will benefit employees and not cost much – might even save you a fair amount.
1. Resources/tools/apps – in your employees pockets that allow employees to actually comparison shop for care.
2. Mandatory Second Opinion – It used to be that everyone got a second opinion when they had a major diagnosis. Now, not so much! 20% of cancer diagnoses are incorrect and more than 30% of MSK surgeries are unnecessary. WOW. Requiring a second opinion (and paying for it) is a low-cost way to identify anything hinky.
3. Prescriptions – I am just going to throw this one out there – consider paying 100% for maintenance medications. Some of you can’t do it (HDHP/HSA issues), but many of you can. Costs almost nothing and will help keep people in good health.
